Life Cycle Inventory (LCI)

The Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) is an inventory of input/output data with regard to the system being studied throughout its life cycle. It involves collection of the data necessary to meet the goals of the defined study.

The LCI must be carried out in compliance with the requirements of ISO 14041 Standard.

A LCI consists of a detailed tracking of all the flows in and out of the product system, including raw resources or materials, energy by type, water, and emissions to air, water and land by specific substance.

This kind of analysis may involve individual unit processes in a supply chain (e.g., the extraction of raw resources, various primary and secondary production processes, transportation, etc.) as well as tracked substances.

The LCI process includes the following activities:

  1.  Data collection
  2.  Data calculation
  3.  Allocation of flows and releases
